How to Measure Your Monitor for the Right Fit

Choosing the correct privacy screen or monitor filter starts with accurate measurements. Use this guide to identify your screen type, measure the correct area, confirm your aspect ratio, and avoid ordering the wrong size.

Raised Bezel Example
Step 1

Identify Your Screen Type

Before measuring, determine whether your monitor has a raised bezel or a flat front glass design. This matters because each screen style is measured differently.

  • Raised bezel screens: measure only the visible display area inside the frame.
  • Flat glass screens: measure the entire glass surface edge-to-edge.
  • Do not include the outside plastic housing or monitor frame unless the filter instructions specifically require it.
Width Measurement
Step 2

Measure the Width

Measure horizontally from the left edge to the right edge of the correct screen area.

  • For raised bezel monitors, measure only the visible display.
  • For flat glass displays, measure the full glass width.
  • Record the measurement in inches, preferably to the nearest 1/16 inch.
Height Measurement
Step 3

Measure the Height

Measure vertically from the top edge to the bottom edge of the correct screen area.

  • For raised bezel monitors, measure the visible display height only.
  • For flat glass monitors, measure the full glass height.
  • Width and height are usually more reliable than diagonal size alone.
Diagonal Size
Step 4

Measure the Diagonal Screen Size

Monitor sizes are usually advertised diagonally. Measure from one corner of the screen area to the opposite corner.

  • Example sizes include 24", 27", and 32".
  • Diagonal size helps confirm the product category.
  • Do not order by diagonal size alone; always verify width and height.
Aspect Ratio Check
Step 5

Confirm the Aspect Ratio

Aspect ratio helps verify that your measurements match the correct filter style. To estimate the aspect ratio, divide width by height.

Example: 23.5" wide ÷ 13.2" high = 1.78, which matches a 16:9 widescreen display.

16:9
Common
16:10
Business
21:9
Ultrawide
4:3
Older
Model Number Best Match Method
Step 6

Find the Monitor Model Number

The exact model number is often the best way to match a screen filter or privacy screen.

  • Look on the back of the monitor.
  • Check the underside of the stand or bottom edge.
  • For laptops, check the bottom of the device or system information.
  • Examples: Dell P2725H, HP E24 G5, Lenovo ThinkVision T24i.

Special Note

Curved Monitor Measuring Tips

Curved monitors need extra attention because not every privacy screen is compatible with curved displays.

  • Measure straight across the screen, not along the curve.
  • Confirm whether the filter is designed for curved or flat monitors.
  • Use the monitor model number whenever possible for best fit verification.

Measuring Laptop Screens

Laptop privacy screens are commonly listed by diagonal size, but you should still confirm the width and height before ordering.

  • Open the laptop screen fully.
  • Measure only the visible display on raised bezel laptops.
  • Measure the full glass panel on edge-to-edge glass laptops.
  • Common laptop sizes include 13.3", 14", 15.6", and 17.3".
